Artist Statement

Is memory truthful?  In my series, I question the recollection of childhood events and consider what it may look like from a strangers point of view based on differing life experiences. Each painting represents a memory from my own childhood that had a large impact on my life, however, the content is vague enough for the viewer to reminisce on their own childhood. While working on these paintings I developed my personal art style, which in turn reflects the ideas of self-reflection and growth of this series. With the essence of fairytale-like art, I attempt to draw upon the viewers nostalgia of being read stories as a child. Memory is not stagnant, but ever-evolving to reflect the current environment and recent events.  Comment- I am going to work on my artist statement more over break, I still don’t feel like it’s saying what I want it to say but I am struggling with it. -kaylee

Updated Tea Party

I made the decision to put lace underneath the paint on the table to create an optical illusion with the pattern painted and in the lace. I think it had a pretty cool outcome, but it definitely looks better in person with the textures that come out.
